REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DATE:1/22/01
ITEM NO: F-4
DepartmentApproval: Manager_Reviewed: AgendaSection:
' ' !
Reports/Recommendations
Item Description: Acceptance of Two Ramsey County Soccer Partners ProgramGrants
: . :• ►
In 1999, Ramsey County initiated a grant program to increase the opportunity for increased
soccer play. The program was formulated based on an inventory of available soccerfields
in Ramsey County. The analysis demonstrated a shortage of soccer venues. A similar
inventory during the process of updating the Roseville Parks and Recreation System Plan
also evidenced the shortage of fields in Roseville based on current and projected demand.
This is being intensified with the loss of the two fields at the former Roseville Activity
Centersite.
The grants are from the Ramsey County Soccer Partners Program. The grant approved
for Lexington Park is for $50,000 and the grant approved for Rosebrook Park is $92,000.
The first grant is for assistance in developing a soccerfield as part of the recently approved
Lexington Park Master Plan and development program. This field would be developed in
2001. The second grant is for the redevelopment of Rosebrook Park that would include
the construction of ern new soccer fields in replacement of two adult softball fields. These
fields would be developed as part of the 2002 PIP. Please see the attached applications.
• •:
The grants are consistentwith the policy of leveraging other public and private resources to
obtain funding to offset the costs of development. It is also consistent with the Roseville
Parksand Recreation System Plan.
