Department Approval <br />Item Description: <br />BACKGROUND <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />ManagerReviewed <br />�l� <br />3/5/2001 <br />DATE: 3/12101 <br />ITEM N0: c-1 <br />Agenda Section: <br />Consent <br />Harriet Alexander Nature Center Prairie Burn <br />As a part of an ongoing maintenance program for the 80' x 90' prairie restoration area <br />at the Nature Center it is necessary to burn a minimum of every other year. This not <br />only rids the weeds but also enriches the prairie plants. The burn is considered <br />controlled and done by experienced individuals. <br />The Roseville Fire Department as well as the surrounding neighbors are notified prior to <br />the burn and invited to attend. <br />The burn is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 7th weather permitting. If not on <br />the 7th, then the first weather conducive day after. <br />POLICY <br />This is consistent with the adopted open burning policy of the City and the prairie <br />management plan. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS <br />None. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Based on the need for a continuing maintenance program the staff recommends that <br />the Nature Center prairie restoration area be burned on Saturday, April 7,2001 or the <br />first weather conducive day after. <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Motion authorizing the Fire Marshall to issue a permit to allow open burning of the <br />prairie restoration area at the Harriet Alexander Nature Center on Saturday, April 7th, <br />2001 or the first weather conducive day after. <br />
