Council Presentation - 2001
Roseville has been involved officially with National Night Out for ten years, and each
year we hae won a national award. This community involvement has expanded not only
in our city, but in the surrounding communities as well.
On National Night Out, August 7, we send our Police Officers and Fire Fighters along
with McGruff the Crime Dog to the neighborhoods that are having a block party.
I believe that we are getting more citizen involvement. Last year we concentrated on
getting the apartment residents more involved. This year there was an increase in
participation but still lacking the residents to participate. We will continue to help
establish partnership with the tenants.
We anticipate at least 60+areas to be involved in National Night Out. There are many
block parties planned for the last week in July for blocks that were not able to get together
on August 7.
A kickoff to National Night Out is August 6, and the city of Roseville will be having iis
annual Family Night Out in Central Park from 5 to 8. The Roseville Citizens Crime
Prevention Association and the North Suburban Youth Foundation sponsor this event: We
have 50 different animals from a local petting zoo, pony rides, and a State Patrol
Helicopter will land and be open for public observation. We will also have food and
entertainment; a fun night for all. This is our way of saying thank you to the citizens of
Roseville for helping us keep our community safe all year long.
Overall our crime rate has decreased citywide in violent and drug related crimes. We feel
that this one night per year enlightens the community to crime prevention and creates a
positive working relationship between police and the community.
We cannot do this without the help of the Fire Department, Parks and Recreation
Department, public works (for delivering and picking up the barricades), police reserves
and explorers. Of course the biggest help of a11 is a community that cares about its
neighbors. This is what makes Roseville a great place to live.
We would like to request the Mayor and Council to acknowledge and sign the
proclamation that you have in your council packets.
