The proclamation is in honor and <br />appreciation of an estimated 70 manufacturing companies in Roseville. <br />2.0 Back_qround <br />2.1 This is the 8th year that the State of Minnesota has been celebrating the <br />importance of the manufacturing industry in Minnesota. Each community is <br />encouraged to recognize their manufacturing companies as part of the state <br />manufacturers month celebration. <br />3.0 Manufacturinq Industry in the State and Roseville <br />3.1 The State of Minnesota cites seven reasons why manufacturing is worth <br />recognizing. <br />1. Manufacturing companies employ nearly one out of every five non-farm <br />workers in Minnesota - nearly 440,000 people. <br />2. Manufacturing technology employment is expected to reach 472,000 by the <br />year 2008. <br />3. Manufacturing employees in Minnesota earn an average of 27 percent more <br />than Minnesota private sector employees. <br />4. Manufacturing has the second largest total payroll of any business sector in <br />Minnesota; 22 percent of the overall wages paid in manufacturing. <br />5. Minnesota produces $31 billion worth of goods for Minnesota's economy, the <br />third largest share (18%) of the gross state product. <br />6.
