Department Approval <br />Item Description: <br />i ` � <br />Request for Council Action <br />Date: January 7, 2002 <br />Item Number: E_7 <br />Manager Approval <br />City Council Annual Goal Setting Workshop <br />Agenda Section <br />Organizational Business <br />Background <br />Annually, the City Council meets to discuss goals and expectations for the coming year. In anticipation of <br />this annual activity staff contacted a number of consultants to secure a summary of services, cost estimates <br />and references from former clients. <br />At the December 17, 2001 City Council meeting, staff prepared information to schedule the annual session. <br />However, the City Council did not support the proposal unanimously. As such, staff contacted another <br />consultant and secured the attached information about Lyle Sumek. Mr. Sumek has a national reputation and <br />provides goal setting and strategic planning support services for municipal governments across the country. <br />The process would begin with a meeting with each City Council member to prepare for a two-day or day and <br />a half workshop. He is currently available to provide such services to Roseville from Februazy 21 through <br />the 23. Pre-workshop discussions would take place the preceding week. Then Mr. Sumek would follow-up <br />the process with a written report summarizing the discussion <br />Financial Implication: <br />Funds will come from the City Council budget for 2002. Based upon fees including the goal setting services, <br />reports, travel and accommodations, it is anticipated that the process will total $10,000. <br />Council Action Requested <br />Motion directing the City Manager to schedule a City Council goal setting discussion and engage Lyle Sumek <br />to conduct the process. <br />
