The purpose of the burns is to improve the quality of
the prairie vegetation. Periodic burns stimulate prairie grasses and flowers and eliminate non-
prairie vegetation. Due to the wet spring weather, no burns were completed last year.
The first site is the natural area around the ponds at Lake McCarrons County Park.
The second site is in the Lake Josephine County park east of Lexington Avenue on the north side
of County Road C-2.
The third site is an area within the city of Roseville's Reservoir Woods Park. Ramsey County is
providing assistance to the city to begin management of the prairie at this park.
Two permits are requested for the Reservoir Woods site. The first will be to burn several brush
piles when there is snow cover. Snow cover will provide a safe situation for burning. The piles are
sumac that was cut out of the prairie areas. Burning is the most feasible way of removing the
brush piles. Although the burn will be completed in one or two days, the permit is requested for
the months of February and March. The amount of time will give some flexibility for proper
weather conditions.
The second permit will be for burning grass in the spring. Ramsey County will provide all
necessary equipment and personnel. I request that this permit, and the one for Lake McCarrons
and Lake Josephine, be valid from April 1- May 10, 2002. Please call me at 651-748-2500, e.
330, if you have any questions.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sicerely,
L FHo
Director of Planning and D velopment
LEH/jh
cc: Bob Bierscheid
MiIW890t8'S First Homexule Connty
prtnced 011 T'eCyCleClpaper whgminlmumafl0kpoetconeumercontent
"`.
