The City magimizes its spending
on economic redevelopment by concentrating on esting industrial areas that are already
protected from residential neiihborhoods.
Many of the industrial corridors that are targeted for redevelopment require some
environmental work to clean the soil. Such sites are called "brownfields," which means that
the land has real or perceived contamination from previous users and is unlikely to be
redeveloped without city, state, or federal financiai assistance
in preparing the land for a productive new use.
The Comprehensive Plan guides targeted redevelopment from
a itywide perspetive, When the City Counil reviews a plan,
it consider market conditions and percentages of esting
office, industrial, retall and other uses. f residents have a
service needs not being met, the Council will promote
redevelopmentto include that service.
11
