Natural water features within the City include McCarron's Lake> Lake
Owasso> and Lake Josephine. There are other significant water areas
within the City which include Zimmerman Pond> Bennett Lake> Walsh
Lake> and Langton Lake. The City has numerous ponding easements
which are utilized as part of the City's storm water drainage system
for retention of storm water. The significance of the system of water
drainage is discussed in the section on storm water sewer systems.
B. Soils
The Ramsey County Soil Conservation Service has identified the
following general soil associations within the City of Roseville. (See
Figure 3)
1. Zimmerman-Urban Land-Rifle: This soil association is level to
gently rolling> excessively to very poorly drained> coarse textured>
and organic soils formed in a sandy wash and deep organic
deposits. Urban land consists of soil covered by concrete> asphalt>
and buildings. This soil association has good potential for urban
uses.
2. Hayden-Urban Land-Dundas: This association is gently sloping to
steep> poorly to well drained> medium to moderately coarse
textured soils formed primarily in calcareous> loamy glacial till and
urban land. This association has fair to poor potential for urban
uses because of slopes and shrink-swell potentials. Roads>
driveways> and foundations need careful design because of the
moderate volume changes in the soil.
3. Urban Land-Waukegan-Chetek: This association consists of urban
land and nearly level to gently sloping> well and somewhat
excessively drained> medium to moderately coarse textured soils
formed in gravelly acid or calcareous outwash. This association
has good to fair potential for urban uses because of slope.
4. Kingsley-Urban Land-Santiago: This association has gently
sloping to steep> well-drained> medium and moderately coarse
textured soils formed on acid> sandy loam glacial till> and urban
land. This association has good potential for urban uses but is
limited in some areas by steep slopes.
5. Urban Land-Chetek-Mahtomedi: This association is urban land
and gently sloping to steep> well and somewhat excessively
Roseville Comprehensive Plan .- 2001 Update The Land and its People -Page 6 of 24
