ADDENDUM TO ROSEVII,LE APPLICATION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
CITIZEN ADVISORY COMIVIISSION
NUITBER ONE
My etreme interest in human rights stems from both personal experiences and
preferences, as well as from my studies in Human Rights Law (both Nationally and
Internationally) during Law SchooL My goa1, upon completion of my judicial clerkship,
is to enter a field of human rights law and public policy dealing directly with the
protection of human rights, and a position on this committee will tie in nicely with this
endeaor. It will also a11ow me to immediately become a zealous advocate for the Eei7efit
of others and volunteer within a group I support ld understand.
Human rights are jeopardized on international, national, and regional levels by
policy, law, legislators, and social prejudices and climates. It's particularly important for
local institutions to recognize violations and react quickly t them as to mitigate any
negative consequences. It is also important to recognize and understand the genesis ol'
human rights abuses so that communities, citizens, and watchdog groups such as the
Human Rights Advisory Council, can prevent then through awareness, policy. loblying,
and education. Overall, people tend to hear more about international human rights issues
to the detriment of news of local human rights abuses. Its wonderful to find that
Roseville is so committed to human rights on a regional level and I would very much
appreciate an opportunity to help carry out and become part of such a humanitarian
endeavor.
NUMBER TWO
After some research, I find that I am still a little unsure as to what it is actly at
this task force does. However, I assume the commission acts as watchdog group and
meets to discuss local issues concerning human rights (both abuses of and protections o.
and then acts by helping to implement policy, lobbying and educating Roseville citizens
so as to protect our fundamental liberties. My guess is that this is done through work
with the city council, mayor, district Congressperson, and Roseville residents, as well as
through communication and networking with other counties: cities, and Minnesota
Legislators.
