:

The concern about terrorists on planes, in malls, and other places has Ueen on
everyone's mind. Though this is ,,great concern, does it mean we have to be s concerned
we are turning into prejudiced people?
The article I have chosen to do my essay on is about Northwest etployes
refusing to let three men of Iraqi descent on a plane. This act is based on the opinion of
Northwest employees. Article Three of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states
that "Everyone has the right to life, liberiy and security o,person." In the opinion of
Northwest employees and passengers, letting these three men onto the plane could be
violating Article Three by putting their security at risk.
But what about the three men? Were they not to be permitted to board the plane
because of their nationality? According to Utah attorney, general, Northwest employees
were violating Article Nine, "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or
exile." The men had already passed the se security test as the otherpassetgers, but
were still not allowed on the plane. Another article that was violated was Article Thirteen,
number one, "Everyone has the rght to freedom of movement and residence within the
borders of each state."
Anybody and everybody has the right to get on a plane, but the same goes for
everyone's security. In my opinion, the three men should have been allowed to board the
plane. I understand how people can fear for their safety, but I feel it is unacceptable for
those people to blame their fear on aerson or,persons based on their race or
nationality.
To help change this, and other events like this, I can change my attitude and
others' attitudes toward-people of a different race, nationality, or religion. I can learn
about them and their cultures and respect what they believe in. I can also stand up for
