.

This paper is totellyou howthe human rights ofAmerican-Muslims are being
violated afterthe terrible tragedy on Septemberll, 2001.
On September 13, 2001, a prominent American-Muslim Advocate group
supported the statements made by Presidentsh, Attorney General JohnAshcroft, and
othergovernmento#ialswhocondemnallattacksonAmerican-MuslimsandArab-
Americansaftertheferroristattacks in NewYorkand Washington D.C.. TheCoundlon
American-IslamicRelationssaythatthesesuchattackshaveinvolvedthingssuchas
shootings, vandalism and death threats by anti-Muslim, on people that are very visably
Muslim.
There have been many similar reportsfrom all overthe country. From schoolyards to
American Islam Centers, Muslimsjustdon'tfeel safe anymore, even though they arejustas
sorry and upsetoverthe incidentas mostAmericans. TheArabAmerican Institute issued
this statementfollowing the tragedy: "We are in the midst of a national nightmare of
unimaginableproportions. Whatisunfoldingishorribleandalmosttoopainfultowatch,we
too had family and friends in the World Trade Center."
TheseattacksonAmerican-MuslimsareadirectviolationofArticles2,15,and 18of
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In a nutshell these 3 articles say that everyone
hasthe rightto nationality, and freedom of race, sex, color, language, and religion. Notonly
are the attacks wrong they also may enrage Muslims in the Middle East and lead to these
peopletojoinaterroristgroupofsomesort.1 thinkthattheseattacksarehorrible,thepeople
of America are simply stooping to the level of the people that made the attacks on
September 11.
The question I really need to ask myself iswhatcan I, as an individual, do aboutthis
horrible situation? And, really, whatcan I do? I mean, this is a national problem, how can a
puny eigth graderhelpthe situation? Well, firstof all, I can stop the racial talkaboutthese
peoples. Sometimes I happen to hear racial talk about the Muslims. I can stand up forthe
Muslims,sayingitisn'tthemthatdidtheattack,anditisn'tfairtojudgethem.Second, Ican
spread the word to people by word of mouth or maybe post it on the internet that the
Muslims are not to blame for the events of September 11. Anyway possible, the word
has to get out to the American people that no blame should be placed on theAmerican-
