Accreditation Purpose of: Date: April 8, 2002 Item: WS II. C. An accreditation process through which law enforcement agencies could demonstrate voluntarily that they meet professionally-recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery. The standards address nine major law enforcement subjects: 1) role, responsibilities, and relationships with other agencies 2) organization, management and administration 3) personnel structure 4) personnel process 5) operations 6) operational support 7) traffic operations 8) prisoner and court-related activities 9) auxiliary and technical services Agencies that seek accreditation are required to comply only with those standards that are specifically applicable to them. Applicability is based on two factors: an agency's size and the functions it performs. Applicable standards are categorized as mandatory or other-than- mandatory. Agencies must comply with all applicable mandatory standards and 80% of applicable other-than-mandatory standards. If an agency cannot comply with a standard because of legislation. There are a total of 439 standards. Roseville, by CALEA definition, is a B-size city. That means that we are required to comply with 375 standards-all standards. To be re-accreditated in 2002, Roseville will need to show proof of corn pliance to all 375 standards for the years 2000, 2001, and 2002. For example, a proof for use of force could be a police report but there would need to be a police report in the file for 2000, 2001, and 2002. Proof of compliance could be any number of things including, but not exclusively, a police report, a statistical report, a financial report, an organizational chart, an FTO schedule, etc. Along with the proof, a copy of the applicable policy and procedure needs to be included, and needs to be marked with which part of the standard the policy covers. It's important to note, that in any given section of standards, the same policy and procedure may actually apply, but for each individual standard a new copy of the policy needs to be generated and marked per standard requirements.
