Accreditation Benefits
As They Apply To The
Roseville Police Department
page two
Accreditation provides objective evidence of an agency's commitment to excellence in leadership,
resource management, and service-delivery. Thus, government officials are more confident in the
agency's ability to operate efficiently and meet community needs.
While this is probably true, it has been the experience of the department that the majority of the members in the
Roseville community have no grasp of what it means if their department is accreditated. What we do find to be
true, is that when the community was surveyed in 1998, 98% responded that they felt the police department was
providing excellent service to Roseville.
Accreditation embodies the precepts of community-oriented policing. It creates a forum in which police
and citizens work together to prevent and control challenges confronting law enforcement and provides
clear direction about community expectations.
The department had a full-time community relations coordinator in place long before becoming accreditated.
The department offers many opportunities for members of the community to become involved in making their
community a better place to live.
It's interesting to note, that many members of the department believe that freeing up time and funds spent on
accreditation will actually enable our department to enhance and initiate even more community oriented
programs
I can speak to one. There is currently grant money available to train officers in the identification and possible
prevention of elder abuse. With the increase of seniors in this community, this is a pertinent and needed field of
study. We have not applied for the grant funds, because we do not have the time or people to implement this
program.
