E. <br />Agenda Section: <br />Consent <br />Background: Each year the Street Department receives bids for materials, which are used for <br />seasonal maintenance operations. Materials bid include aggregate for seal coating bituminous <br />materials for road repair, asphalt emulsion for seal coating and Class 5 gravel for base repair. <br />Policy Objectives: Each year city staff uses the competitive bid process to secure maintenance <br />materials that fa11 within budget guidelines. This allows maintenance programs to be completed <br />as planned with quality materials at the lowest possible cost to the city. <br />Financial Implications: Street maintenance materials are financed out of the general fund. The <br />combined bids received are within the budgeted material costs projected for 2002. <br />Discussion of bids: Bids were received and opened on April 23, 2002. This years competitive <br />bid process resulted in unit prices for most materials equal to or lower than bids received in 200 1. <br />Class 5 gra�el base material bid came in $.35 per ton higher than last years bid for picked up <br />price and $.45 per ton higher delivered. With the exception of asphalt, materials are typically <br />delivered to the Public Works Department.
