Roselawn Crematory Discussion
Tom Radio, attorney for Roselawn Cemetery
Association, introduced himself and the President of the
Roselawn Cemetery Board of Directors. Radio asked if
the City Council was interested in rehearing the Council
Use Permit (CUP) application for a crematory at
Roselawn Cemetery. Local morticians, he said, support
a crematory. He noted that another Roselawn option
includes litigation. As for the environmental impact of a
crematory, Roselawn would consider retaining an
independent firm to do an environmental risk
assessment. If the study showed no appreciable
environmental or public health risk, then the Roseville
City Council, he said, should grant their CUP
application.
Schroeder asked about the standards for conducting
environmental studies of crematories.
Maschka commented on the lack of regulatory standards.
Kough asked if Council could approve the consultant
who would conduct the study, and who would pay for
the consultant.
Gary Hirsch, resident, commented on the unanswerable
questions about crematories that concern neighbors.
