Article for News Fax
2002 City of Roseville Referendum
Residents of the City of Roseville will be asked to vote on a referendum to authorize the
sale of $$$ million in general obligation bonds to upgrade the police department offices
and the public works maintenance area. Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday,
November 5 to vote on this issue.
If the referendum is successful, the City will begin (buildinglremodeling.. ..)in spring
2003. The impact of a$$$million referendum would be divided among all property
owners in Roseville over a period of XX years. Owners of a$xxx, xxx home can expect
to pay $xx per year, while owners of a$xxx, xxx home can expect to pay $xx per year.
If the referendum passes maj or improvements include:
• Increase the number of Salley Ports to four to allow police officers to safely
transport criminals to locked holding cells. It reduces flight risk and helps ensure
the safety of police and the public.
• Federal law mandates thatjuveniles be kept separate from adult criminals and
men be kept separate from women. Currently police officers must shuffle those
arrested to accommodate the others who are arrested.
• Detention area directly accessible from the Salley Ports would help police to keep
criminals separate from victims and witnesses.
• Space for officers to access latest technological advances in crime mapping that
can track up to the minute information on various crimes.
• Private reporting stations with computers would allow officers to privately
complete their paperwork without distractions, reducing the risk of errors that
could allow criminals to go free.
• Record storage area that would ensure confidentiality and would allow for multi-
year storage. Staff would be able to retrieve police reports more quickly while
ensuring confidentiality.
• Add a night entrance to Police Department to improve access and provide safety
for someone waiting for the police.
• Not enough room for road equipment. If equipment is stored properly we can
extend the life of equipments by up to three times compared to when it is stored
outdoors.
• Salt and sand storage area does not meet state and federal guidelines. Current
storage area is too small and open to the elements. As a result, Roseville cannot
store large quantities of salt and sand so the City pays higher storage prices. Open
piles can runoff and pollute groundwater.
• The City keeps repair costs low by doing repairs internally. The bays do not have
a truck lift, are too small for newer equipment and do not have adequate
ventilation. Additionally, the welding are is not compliant with state and federal
regulations.
Call xxxx at phone number if you have questions about the resolution.
