REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL PAYMENT APPROVAL DATE: 07/15/02 ITEM NO: V�II, A. r�a�l- �i�n��er Appr��red� Agenda Section: �� CONSENT It�m [��ripti�a: R�qu��t: Piyrn�at Qp�r��] for abatement work completed at 1661 Stanbrid�eAvenue (PF3200) 1.0 BACKGROUND 1.1 Periodically the Community Development staff reviews Code violations relating to property maintenance to determine whether there are properties in disrepair for more than 1 year. The staff spends time attempting to gain compliance during the year on these properties. Generally they ha�e not met the Code because the owner has been unable (physically or financially) or unwilling to comply with the Code. Property abatement is one remedy. It allows the City to order corrections and assess the property for the wark. This process has been used in previous years to secure buildings from vandals and weather, clean up buildings, paint and/or restore siding, plug rodent holes, repair windows and fix failing garage roofs and doors. 12 In March 2000 the City Council approved an abatement of a public nuisance on a structure's e�erior at 1661 StanbridgeAvenue. 1.3 In December of 2001 repair wark began. Repairs were largely completed by the end of May 2002. Minor painting, the reattachment of phone wires and the filling of a few holes in the dirt remain to occur this summer. 1.4 The estimated cost ofrepairs reported to Council inNovember 2001 totaled $37,354.00. Payments to the contractor, to date, ha�e totaled $34,386.00. This payment will be in the amount of $2,658.00, bringing the total to $37,044.00.
