<br />official in America's cities. The program
<br />we have planned reflects the time we
<br />live in and deals directly with issues
<br />facing our cities. This year's program will
<br />provide you with many opportunities to
<br />learn more about what your colleagues
<br />in other cities are doing,what products
<br />and services are available to your city,
<br />and for you to share your own ideas and
<br />lessons.

<br />InJuly 1847, Brigham Young arrived in Salt
<br />Lake City withmOPE than140 Mormons who
<br />had left Illinois to seek a new home. To him,
<br />Salt Lake City was "the right place where my
<br />people shall pitch their tents." The spot is now
<br />marked by the "This Is the Place Monument."
<br />!n February 2002, Salt Lake City was the right
<br />place for thousands of athletes from around
<br />the world to compete in the 2002 Winter
<br />Olympic Games.

<br />experienced city officials who will share

<br />housing strategies, to downtown redevelopment,
<br />to pedestrian safety. to learning from the
<br />Olympic legacy. Mobile workshops will begin

<br />through Friday, December 6. Delegates will
<br />ha�e the opportunity to participate in these
<br />Host City Mobile Workshops by signing up
<br />during the conference at the Host City Desk
<br />in the Registration area. There is no
<br />pre-registr�tion but space is limited to
<br />mamtam aproductive educational and
<br />learning experience. Registration will be
<br />on a first-come first-served basis.
<br />LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE
<br />S E MI N A RS provide in deptl�skill building
<br />learningexperiencesforaseparatefeeand
<br />credit toward the Certificate of Achievement in
<br />Leadership. These specialseminarswillbe
<br />offered on Tuesday, December 3, and
<br />Wednesday, December 4. A complete schedule

<br />NETWORKING SESSIONS AND RESOURCES
<br />offer delegates the opportunity to share ideas,
<br />compare notes, and learn from each other.
<br />There will be both structured networking
<br />sessions during the conference as well as
<br />opportunities to exchange ideas informally
<br />betweenworkshop sessions and during
<br />lunches and various meetings. 11l addition,
<br />the City Showcase willprovide a special
<br />opportunity to leam about successful
<br />programs and to talk with city staff who l�a�e
<br />beendirectlyinvolvedinimplementing the

<br />AN EXPOSITION with more than 300 booths
<br />provides delegatesthe chance to make
<br />connections withthe leading vendors serving
<br />municipal govemment. The expositionwillbe
<br />open to all conference delegates and their
<br />guests starting Wednesday eveningDecember
<br />4 for the Welcome Reception and will be open
<br />during the day Thursday, December S, and
<br />Friday, December 6. To ensure plenty oftime
<br />to visit the many vendors, there will be special
<br />events in the e�ubit hall including two
<br />conference wide lunches, prize drawing s, and
<br />vendor-sponsored workshops.
