REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACT/ON <br />DATE: 1 0/21%�002 <br />ITFM NO��/_ R <br />nt Approval: Manager proved: Agenda Section: <br />�j `�/'j // � ���d� Recognition <br />Item Description: Proclamation declaring October 21— October 25, 2002 as Minnesota <br />Manufacturers & Technology Week in the City of Roseville <br />1.0 Requested Action <br />1.1 Proclaim October 21 — October 25, 2002 as Minnesota Manufacturers & <br />Technology Month in the City of Roseville. The proclamation is in honor and <br />appreciation of an estimated 75 manufacturing companies in Roseville. <br />2.0 Back_qround <br />2.1 This is the 9th year that the State of Minnesota has been celebrating the <br />importance of the manufacturing industry in Minnesota. Each community is <br />encouraged to recognize their manufacturing companies as part of the state <br />manufacturers' week celebration. <br />3.0 Manufacturin_q IndustrV in the State and Roseville <br />3.1 The State of Minnesota cites several reasons why manufacturing is worth <br />recognizing. <br />➢ Manufacturing technology has the second largest total payroll of any business <br />sector in Minnesota, providing $23 billion in 2000 wages. <br />➢ Since 1990 Minnesota's technology intensive employment grew 18%. <br />➢ Manufacturing and technology employees in Minnesota earn an average of 31 <br />percent more than other Minnesota private sector employees. <br />➢ The manufacturing and technology sector employment grew 2.9 percent <br />nationally between 1990 and 2000, while in Minnesota it actually increased 17.7 <br />percent (an estimated total of nearly 510,000 jobs). <br />3.2 In Roseville there are approximately 75 manufacturing companies generating <br />$2.2 billion in annual sales and employing over 4,800. <br />RCA — Mfg.
