Just saw the article in the Roseville Review about the meeting for a possible Roseville Community Center. We will not be able to attend the public meeting July 16 but would like to give some input in favor of having a community center. During the 38 years we have lived in Roseville, we have made good use of the fine classes and activities through Roseville Community Education and Parks and Recreation. With Fairview aging and having limitations as to space and facilities plus an increased interest in people of all ages in a variety of family activities, we feel a community center would be a real asset to Roseville. We have visited and used some facilities at neighboring community centers (New Brighton and Shoreview) that have first class facilities and seem very popular and well used. It would be nice to have one more convenient for Roseville residents. We would like to see like to see the following included if possible: a fitness center, swimming pool(s), meeting spaces, and possibly a performing arts theater. Roseville should take an inventory of what community center facilities are readily available in nearby communities, and try not to duplicate things unnecessarily. If Roseville decides to include something unique, such as a performing arts theater, the facility needs to be open to as broad a regional population as practical in order to optimize utilization. No sense building something that sits empty much of the time. We have a personal interest in physical fitness classes. Fairview Community Center lacks air conditioning, a walking/running track, and exercise equipment.
