Lindsay Matt <br />Human Rights Essay <br />How would I respond if my best friend made a racial remark about <br />someone we both know? <br />I would respond by saying that the comment that my friend made was <br />very rude and ignorant, and l would insist on an apology. I know it doesn't <br />sound like very much, but I think it would show that l look beyond the <br />surface differences between me and other people. <br />Why I would say what l said? l believe ray i m is taught by parents <br />and society, and It can be unlearned or stopped at an early age. This <br />summer when l worked at a day. care center over at Fairview Community <br />Center, I saw Hmong children playing alongside African-American and <br />Caucasian children. l think that the children at the daycare experienced <br />friends of different races early in life. <br />According to The Declaration. of Human all humans are born free <br />and equal in dignity and rights. Everyone is entitled to aU the rights and <br />freedoms in the declaration without separation by race, gentler, religion, or <br />language. The Declaration of Human sights also says in Article 18 that all <br />humans have the right to thought. I Article 19 it says that all humans have <br />the right to freedom of expression and opinion. So in some ways my friend <br />wouldn't have been wrong by saying what he or she said even though it may <br />have been rude or uncalled for. <br />Education and experience with many cultures are the ways respect is <br />taught whether it is parents teaching children or friends teaching friends, <br />
