Roseville Human Fights Commission. 11 inut s Page 2 <br />anauary 9, 1996 <br />Jessica Palk.owitsch St. rose of Lima School <br />Doll Call, Ayes: All present.. Nays. Done. <br />The Commission decided to present the Essay Awards at the February 12, 1 996 <br />Council meeting. Mary Cordes will send notification letters out to the winners <br />and teachers. students, teachers, family members, friends and Commissioners <br />will all be invited to a reception following the a- ward ceremony. Maggie Ma rt <br />will call students a week before the council meeting to make sure they plan on <br />attending. Mice Hermes will speak to the Parks and Recreation department <br />about getting certificates for all 290 students that participated in the contest. <br />VII. Cable T <br />Mike Hermes reported that he was planning a 3 segment program for January <br />19, including the addition of Bike Patrick as a possible guest to discuss disability <br />issues. Ruth McKenzie is scheduled to discuss her video. Hermes suggested <br />that some of the Commissioners cone on the program to discuss Commission <br />activities. <br />VI 11. Other Business <br />A. school Intervention <br />Lee Bauer, from the Roseville Area school District, net with the <br />Commission to discuss how the Commission and the school District could <br />develop a formal connection. Mike grainer noted that the Commission <br />that finding and educational role with regard to diversity and human. rights <br />issues. is a priority goal for the Commission. Bauer suggested a <br />Commissioner might attend the District Committee meeting. The District <br />t <br />Committee is also int er est in broadening its teaching perspective with <br />regard to diversity issues, and obtaining more c ommunity involvement. <br />ergquist Anderson both e an interest in attending. Maur also <br />suggested Kathy Nelson, head of SEED (seeking Educational Equity and <br />Diversity) training for the state,. as another possible resource. Mile <br />Hermes asked if the schools might be able to provide ideas for the Cabl <br />TV show. A presentation on the AIDS quilt by students of Roseville Area <br />High school was discussed as a possibility. The Commission also <br />requested Bauer's assistance with the r ruitment of a `youth <br />Commissioner. In addition, Bauer suggested a Commissioner might <br />attend a February 6 District diversity meeting at. Fairview school for <br />brainstorming purposes to see what kinds of projects the Commission <br />could beco involved with <br />
