THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTICLE IN THE UNIVERSAL L R I TON OF HUMAN
RIGHTS
I am doing my human rights essay on Article 11 1 and
Part (1) states that "Anyone who is charged with a penal offense
remains innocent until proven guiit "I picked this article
because I have an interest in the law, and also I wanted to write
about criminals or crime. I think that this article is good
because if someone is arrested for so-m t sing he didn't de, he has
a chance to be freed. Also if 8omeone does do something wrong that
is against the law, he has the right to a defense. I also believ
that it is good not to convict someone of a crime until after he
has been proven guilty. Theme are many factors that can come into
plan during any given act and until all the facts are laid out,
it is not right to accuse someone because it may be wrong.
Part of Article 11 states: Anyone who has committed a
crime which actually was not a crime at the tirne it was committed
cannot be held guilty of any penal offense and a heavier penalty
cannot be imposed than the one that was supposed to be given at
the time the crime was committed no matter what the penalty is at
the present tire* A heavier penalty may not be given just because
the judge did not like the person involved or was against hire
for any reason. what this means is that a person is entitled to a
fair trial and cannot be charged with a crime if it wasn't a. crime
at than :tire i .e nor; can he be given a heavier penalty than
was appropriate at the time the crime was committed.
b
Kurt Lindberg
