bCLL" LU i e
Defendina Human Rights
according to the Declaration of Human Rights, all human
beings should act toward each other in a spirit of brotherhood,
there should be no discrimination regardless of race or religion,
and everyone has the right to a national identity. i, of curse,
agree that these rights are entirely appropriate, and that they
should not be denied to anyone. But there is also the matter of
article number nineteen. This article states treat, "Everyone has
the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this includes
freedom to half opinions Without interference.st
Based on these statements, I have decided that the best
course of action f or the given situation could be as f ol I ows. I
would clearly state to my family member or neighbor that in my
opinion these "different people" should not be prejudiced against
merely because of their race or religion, Yet I would make sure
that this person did not think that I was only taking the change t4
criti cize them, for they might take to the defensive and became
much less open to and other ideas. One other approach that I could tike would be to suggest to
the pe, rson that they try imagining what i t would be like to be i n
the "different" person's shoes. Then they might actually realize
how harsh it could be to be disliked by someone dust because of a
fact that doesn't make them any worse of a person.. I believe it is
my responsibility as an American citizen to carry out the
preceding stategy if such a situation or one similar to it, were to
ever occur.
I f everyone would at lest try to d4 these things our planet
would be a much more pleasant place to live.
