of our communities; still the- government is not considering the struggles they have to go through <br />when their families are separated. <br />A year ago, my younger brother and I almost became like these children. My father was a <br />Mexican illegal immigrant; three days before Christmas Day at 6.40 a.m. the U.S. Citizenship <br />and Immigration Services came to our home and arrested my father. Twenty -four hours passed <br />before we got to talk to hire through a phone call. He told us that they were - apparently <br />reinvestigating the car, accident he was responsible for 12 years ago, but that they would release <br />him and not send him to Mexico if we paid a fee . of 10,000 dollars. Though, we knew that my <br />father had already completed all his penalties for the accident, we still paid. My family isn't rich <br />so it.took,us a few days to collect all that money. But since it was the holidays, it took a whole <br />week before my father was released. By- then Christmas had passed, not having my whole family <br />together during that time was one of the worst things I have ever experienced. I had to make <br />myself strong, though, inside I felt like I was going to burst into tears any moment, and help nay <br />mother with everything that had to be dons so my father could come home. I can't imagine how <br />children who don't have their parents right now are able to keep going to school and continue <br />with their lives. <br />This stereotype is causing Mexican illegal immigrants to not be able to become citizens of <br />the United States. when in. Article 15 of the Human bights it clearly states that you have the <br />right to belong to a country and nobody can prevent you, without a good reason, from belonging <br />to a country if you wish. It is also causing families to be separated from one another. Human <br />Rights Article 16 includes the government of your country should protect your family and its <br />members. Even though, Mexican illegal immigrants are not Citizens of the United States, the <br />Universal Declaration of Human Rights still apply to <br />
