Teague Bogenhold, Honorable Mention
Grade 8, Gary SchwinglelJeff Bibeau
Roseville Area Middle School
Human Rights EssaX
Right now the `perfect society" doesn't exist, but with some simple and little improvements we
can get closer to that mark everyday. Portraying certain races in a negative way, the way others use
your family's economic status to determine how educated you are, and brainwashing people into
thinking that everyone must be a perfect "Barbie doll," are ways that our society is demolishin g and
taking advantage- of our human rights.
Putting all races behind white only makes people of color more conscious of being g differ ent
from the others. The only way to stop it is by reminding ourselves that all are created equal. The first
article of the Universal Declaration of I Turman RiThts,, states; `everyone has the right to equality and are
to be treated in the same way." The second article states that "everyone is free from any discrimination."
On my way out to dinner with my family, I noticed that the police had pulled over an .African American
man but I didn't really think much of it until I noticed on our way back that they had pulled over another
African .American man. That made me think about how unfairly some races m our society are treated
like how often racism occurs everyday.
How well you do in school cannot be measured by how much money you have but by how hard
you're willing to work, According to the Minnesota Human Ri hts Act, one should receive the
necessary education without knowing your economic status. Although some have more money, that
does not mean that the wealthier individuals are smarter than lower income individuals. Even in my
school, this situation is true, with a poor boy being immensely smarter than a very privledged boy.
Y
Finally, the "perfect image" is destroying our society by lifting some over others and making
people believe if they're not up to that "flawless" standard than they are not good enough.
