MN 55409 -1OO
Dear Mayor and City Council Members,
Phone: 612- 230 -6400
Fax: 612- 230 -65(0
As an elected official from another jurisdiction, I would like to
WWW.mi nneapol i spark s.orp
commend you on the thoughtful process you have used to handle the
issues surrounding the development of the property abutting the
Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board owned and operated Francis A.
Gross Golf Course. Allowing your constituents and others, the ability to
further weigh in on this issue shows a real concern for the community and
demonstrates good government practices.
Gross Golf Course has been a profitable operation for the park board for
many years and in these turbulent financial times is a much needed source
of non tax derived income. As the State of Minnesota faces massive
budget deficits, and urban centers like Minneapolis face the potential loss
of millions in Local Government Aid (LGA) dollars, we rely heavily
upon our golf courses to provide the funding for core services critical to
the operation of the Minneapolis park system. These services include
youth recreation opportunities for many families living below the poverty
level and in areas that have some of the highest foreclosure rates in the
president country. Our parks are often providing more than just a place to play
John Ervin ball.
Vice President
M. Annie Young Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to provide additional
C information related to this site. As the commissioner representing the
Brad Bourn area which includes Gross Golf Course I am hopeful that any decisions
Bob Fine
Carol A. Kummer made will be for development compatible with the successful operation of
Jon C. Olson our facility.
Anita Tabb
Scot( Vreeland
Lir Wielinski Sincerely,
Superintendent
ndent
David L.
