Carolyn Curti January 11, 2011
Full Name: Anthony Barrett Item 2
Last Name: Barrett Swearing in Youth Commissioner
First Name: Anthony
The following form was submitted via your website: Commission Application
Please check commission applying for: Human Rights Commission
If other, please list name:
This application is for:: Student Term
If this is a student application, please list your grade: 12
Name:: Anthony Barrett
Address:
City, State, Zip: Roseville, MN 55113
Phone Number
Email address
How many years have you lived in Roseville 17
Work Experience (especially as it relates to the Commission/Board for which you are applying):
Education:: St. Rose K -8
Roseville Area High School (graduating 2011)
Civic and Volunteer Activities (Past and Present):: Boy Scouts National Honor Society at Roseville HS Confirmation Teen
Mentor at Corpus Christi Church Sunday School Teacher at Corpus Christi Church Link Leader (freshman orientation) at
Roseville HS
Please state your reasons for wanting to serve on the Commission/Board:: Being a team captain and a freshman orientation
leader, I have seen lots of kids being discriminated against at the high school based on race, sexual orientation, and physical
appearance. I always go out of my way to stand up for these kids, but I have wished there was a better way to help out. By being
a youth Human Rights Commissioner, I would be able to reach out to and represent students at my school and in my
community.
What is your view of the role of this Commission/ Board Since middle school and high school are such defining periods for
individuals' futures, it is critical that students feel safe and comfortable at school. A youth Human Rights Commissioner should
serve as a liaison between community youth and the Human Rights Commission, making sure that youth in the area are
properly represented and cared for.
Any further information you would like the City Council to consider or that you feel is relevant to the appointment or
reappointment you are seeking.: I have lots of leadership and volunteer experience that I have taken on over the past few years. I
have twice been elected captain of the high school swim and dive team, and once for the lacrosse team. I have been the Senior
Patrol Leader in my Boy Scout troop for three years, and recently built a rain garden for my church as my Eagle Scout Project. I
am involved in three varsity sports, two extracurricular music ensembles, five service organization, and I maintain a 3.9 GPA
with a rigorous schedule. I am fully prepared and eager to further benefit my community by serving on this board.
1
