Date: January 25, 2011 Item No: 6 <br />Item Description: Update on Coal Tar Sealant Ban <br />Background: <br />The Commission asked for additional research on the proposed ordinance prohibiting the use of <br />coal tar based sealants as a result of the discussion at your last meeting. Staff attended a session <br />on this topic recently and we have attached the handout received at this session that further <br />explains the hazards of these compounds. We are also researching the likelihood of legislation <br />this year to ban these types of sealants containing coal tar. We also learned that White Bear <br />Lake and others modified the model ordinance to ban any level of coal tar in the sealant material. <br />Recommended Action: <br />Di scussion of next steps <br />Attachments: <br />A.
