Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Minutes August 18, 2010 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />She said the question would be sent to the seven public and private schools within the Roseville <br />Area School District boundaries. <br />4c. MIC's Tenth Annual World Quest <br />Commissioner McKenzie described the MIC's World Quest International Trivia Competition. <br />She said this is a way to get youth involved and suggested the commission sponsor a student <br />group in 2011. <br />Commissioners asked several questions ways to get students involved, do we sponsor a team <br />from one school or invite students from various schools to compete. Commissioners discussed <br />the need for the schools and /or teachers' commitment. They discussed the cost approximately <br />13% of the HRCs budget. Commissioners asked if this was the best use of $250, whether there <br />are other, more local activities that the commission could fund. Others asked if this kind of <br />competition was directly connected with the HRC's mission. <br />Commissioners discussed other ways to involve students and suggested speaking with Jan <br />Vanderwall. He is the RAS's contact person for the Human Rights Commission. Commissioner <br />McKenzie agreed to talk with Mr. Vanderwall about youth groups and identifying issues in <br />which students are interested. She will also talk with him about getting a youth member on the <br />commission. <br />4d. Minnesota Local Human Rights Project Grant Form <br />The proposal is on hold until December, and it will be on the agenda then. <br />5. Public Comment <br />No one appeared to speak. <br />6. Future Agenda Items <br />Commissioners agreed that they wanted to talk about the World Quest Trivia contest and ways to <br />get students involved in the HRC. Commissioner McKenzie asked that the HRC consider <br />repeating the Department of Human Rights Regional meeting this spring, adding accreditation as <br />a way to encourage greater participation. Commissioners suggested involving the surrounding <br />communities' HRCs to help sponsor the event. <br />Commissioners suggested developing a youth engagement plan that looks at the HRC's budget. <br />7. Announcements <br />Commissioner Kennedy told about the recent Karen Martyrs Day celebration and the outstanding <br />attendance. Commissioner Grefenberg asked if there were ways for the HRC to hear about what <br />
