City Manager Malinen noted that he <br />would pursue education opportunities for staff, specifically online training, and noted the <br />Roseville Issues Forum is available for interaction and comments about the community. <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Commissioner Venters moved and Commissioner Crump seconded approval of the October 9, <br />2007 meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried 5/0. <br />Elect Vice -Chair to the Commission <br />Chair Delmore thanked Commissioners for her <br />Chair Delmore suggested election of Commissioner <br />Commissioner Venters asked if Commissioner <br />Chair. <br />as Chairperson. <br />as Vice Chair. <br />was interested in serving as Vice- <br />Commissioner McKenzie declined, noting that she had had <br />Commissioners concurred that election of a Vice Chair be postponed until the next meeting so <br />they could find out if Commissioner Bosch was interested. <br />Update on Essay Contest <br />Commissioners discussed the essay review process scheduled for completion by December 7, <br />2007, the criteria chart and a detailed explanation for review of more than 200 essays. <br />Discussion included how grading was done and how much thought contestants provided during <br />the process or whether they were regurgitating parental views or news stories, their potential <br />presentation abilities and their understanding of the Human Rights Act. <br />Commissioner McKenzie advised that the City's first place contestant in 2006 had moved onto <br />third place at the State level and expressed her pride in this accomplishment. <br />League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions Update <br />Commissioner McKenzie provided an update on State HRC waiving of fees for attendance at the <br />upcoming December 7 meeting through The Bremer Foundation grant. <br />Discussion included interest in attendance, workshops that would enhance upcoming Race <br />Forum offerings in the City of Roseville and Commissioner McKenzie's intended attendance. <br />Commissioners Venters and Oftelie expressed interest in attending.
