Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />DRAFT Minutes –December 14, 2009 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />Accept Forum Debriefing Report and Establish 2010 Forum Committee <br /> <br />Commissioners discussed the success of the Oct ober forum and the possibility of hosting another <br />forum. Commissioners discussed possible changes to the format and location. They discussed <br />involving more members of the community. Commi ssioners asked that staff put on the website <br />that anyone interested in planning the Dialogue 3 contact the City. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kennedy moved a nd Commissioner Liz Jaeger seconded to establish a 2010 <br />Forum Committee chaired by Thelma McKenzie to plan for next year’s diversity dialogue. <br />Motion prevailed. <br /> <br />Next Steps with the Commission Boar d Training and Goal Setting for 2010 <br /> <br />Commissioners discussed the next steps following the Novemb er Commission training. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg move d and Commission Kennedy seconde d that the three committees <br />identified in the training be es tablished and be prepared to re port on progress in January. Motion <br />prevailed. <br /> <br />Future Agenda Items <br /> <br />Dialogue with Karen community <br />Police Data <br />Report on application for civic engagement <br />Essay contest <br /> <br />Announcements <br /> <br />Curti reminded Commissioners that the 2010 mee ting schedule was included in their packet. <br /> <br />Commissioner Jaeger reported th at she, Commissioner Marie Ofte lie and Carolyn Curti attended <br />the Human Rights Day Conference. They attended the League of Minnesota Human Rights <br />Commissions annual meeting. She praised the ke ynote speaker, Dr. Frank Wu, for his thoughtful <br />discussion about being Asian in America. She re lated that at one of the breakout sessions a <br />person made a disparaging comment about the Rose ville Police. Curti repo rted that she spoke <br />with the person after the meeting to clarify the complaint. She gave the person her number and <br />offered to speak with anyone about any alleged incidents. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kennedy related an incident about the Post Office stopping delivery to an <br />apartment complex that housed many Karen fam ilies. The apartment building is in Maplewood, <br />on the Roseville border, and ma ny of the children attend Rosevi lle schools. The postal carrier <br />said he did not feel sa fe delivering the mail. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kennedy spoke with a MDHR em ployee, Representative Mindy Greiling and <br />Councilmember Tammy Pust about the situation.
