March 8, 2011
Carolyn Curti Item 4B
Program Planners Subcommittee
From: Gary Grefenberg [ggrefenberg @comcast.net]
Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2011 1:02 PM
To: Carolyn Curti
Cc: Marie Oftelie
Subject: For Inclusion in Commission Meeting Packet--Note Page 3 in Color
March 2, 2011
To: Roseville Human Rights Commission
From: Gary Grefenberg
Re: Current Status of Civic Engagement Project
Please find attached a draft work plan for the Civic Engagement project which the Program Planners
Committee has been working on for these past few months. This project will be getting into
high gear beginning this month. Page three of the attached report describes in some detail the current
status of this project and our plans for the next few months.
In addition to the information attached there are a few new--and important--developments relating to
this effort. These are as follows.
Youth Commissioner Se;.h Josephson has agreed to join the Program Planners Committee for this
project.
As of yesterday Mario Hernandez (Minnesota Department of Human Rights) has agreed to extend the
Bremer Foundation grant to the end of this June.
Mayor Dan Roe in last month's State of the City Address mentioned this civic engagement effort
when he stated, under the heading "Objectives for 2011":
We will see efforts to promote grass-roots development of neighborhood associations or other
means to more effectively connect residents with their City government.
This reference included our project which the mayor has supported for quite a while. Other city
council members have been equally supportive.
The Program Planners Committee is considering contracting with Anne Carroll, the consultant who
assisted the city a few Years ago in developing the Imagine Roseville 2025 vision for the city. More
information will be forthcoming.
Attachment: Draft Outline for Civic Engagement Project
1
