• Building,residential:A building which is arranged,designed,used <br /> or intended to be used for residential occupancy by one or more <br /> families or lodgers,and which includes,but is not limited to,the <br /> following types multiple-family dwelling,single-family attached <br /> dwellings,single-family detached dwellings,and two-family detached <br /> dwellings <br /> Building complex:A group of two or more buildings,planned or <br /> developed in a joint manner with shared parking facilities,regardless <br /> of whether such buildings or uses are located on the same lot or <br /> parcel. <br /> Building height:The vertical dimension measured from the average <br /> elevation of the approved grade at the front of the building to the <br /> highest point of the roof in the case of a flat roof,to the deck line <br /> of a mansard roof,and to the midpoint of the ridge of a gable,hip, <br /> or gambrel roof.(For purposes of this definition,the average height <br /> shall be calculated by using the highest ridge and its attendant eave. <br /> The eave point used shall be where the roof line crosses the side <br /> wall.)In the case of alterations,additions or replacement of existing <br /> buildings,height shall be measured from the natural grade prior to <br /> construction. <br /> Building materials sales:An establishment that sells or rents <br /> building supplies,construction equipment,or home decorating <br /> fixtures and accessories.This term does not include a lumberyard or <br /> • home improvement center. <br /> C <br /> Caliper inch:A unit of measurement describing the diameter of a <br /> tree measured one foot above the finished grade. <br /> Canopy:A roof-like structure projecting from the building over an <br /> entrance or window that provides weather protection for the entry or <br /> window and,perhaps,the immediately adjacent area.Canopies shall <br /> be considered part of the wall area for the purpose of allocation of <br /> signage. <br /> Canopy,auxiliary:A roof-like structure projecting over,including <br /> but not limited to,fuel pump islands,drive-through banking,or <br /> any canopy with a drive-through lane.An auxiliary canopy provides <br /> weather protection for more than the building entrance or windows. <br /> Auxiliary canopies may be attached or detached from the principal <br /> building.For sign purposes auxiliary canopies shall be considered a <br /> separate structure. <br /> Car wash:An establishment where washing,drying,polishing,or <br /> vacuuming of an automobile or other motor vehicle is done by service <br /> personnel,the driver,or by automated machinery. <br /> Catering establishment:A business that prepares food and beverages <br /> to be delivered off premises for consumption at a social,business,or <br /> civic function and may also provide service at the function. <br /> • <br />
