Roseville Public Works, Environment and
Transportation Commission
Agenda Item
Date: April 26, 2011 Item No: 5
Item Description: Roof Infrastructure Management Presentation
Background:
Public Works is responsible for the building maintenance program on the city campus. This
includes the city hall and the maintenance buildings. These buildings were constructed and
modified through a number of additions and renovations over the years. Some of the oldest roof
areas are at the end of their useful life and have been included in the capital improvement plan
for replacement over the next 2 -4 years. The cost of replacement is estimated at several hundred
thousand dollars. The city has not set aside adequate resources to fund these replacements. Staff
has been exploring alternatives to complete replacement and how to manage these assets to
maximize the city's investment in facilities. There are companies in the business of managing
assets and assuming some of the risks associated with those assets.
We have requested Craig Hulbert of Tremco Inc. to give a short presentation to the Commission
on their program for managing roof assets. Staff is preparing budgetary needs for the 2012
budget process and is considering recommending this or a similar program to manage these
assets.
Recommended Action:
Discuss merits of this type of asset management program.
Attachments:
A.
