Maplewood Collection System Analysis <br />Goals and Objectives <br />March 28, 2011 <br />Attachment 1 <br />Following is a ranking of goals and objectives for trash collection systems as submitted by four <br />City Councilmembers since the February 28, 2011, City Council meeting. <br />1. Economic <br />Cost savings on road repairs and reconstruction. <br />a Lower cost for residents (cost per household per month) due to competitive <br />bidding. <br />2. Service <br />Greater leverage to correct problems with service. <br />Customized service options for residents such as: <br />Rebates for extended vacations (e.g., over four weeks without service) <br />Special collection options (e.g., garage -side pickup) <br />Large /bulky items pick up. <br />Special events pickups (e.g., Spring and Fall Clean Up events) <br />3. Environmental <br />To better manage solid waste and recycling. <br />Better able to direct waste to the best environmental destination. <br />Less gas and/or diesel burned. <br />Less CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. <br />4. Safety <br />Safer streets. <br />5. Efficiency <br />Maximizing efficiency in solid waste collection. <br />6, Planning Process <br />Achieving the stated organized collection goals of the city. <br />Ensuring participation of all interested parties in the decision making process. <br />7. Aesthetics <br />Less traffic, noise, and dust. <br />More consistent and neater looking streets during collection days. <br />8.
