3) HEATHER GILBERT
2724 Virginia Ave. E-mail: heather.gilbert @wmitchell.edu
Cover Memo: Attached please find my application. I quickly reviewed the
document you sent me earlier this evening. I am intrigued and curious about
the vision the commission has for the "how"part of these objectives. I
assume that is the reason for the task force team.
I wonder if there has been some concern or issue raised that caused the
formation of the task force, or if it is just a proactive measure to make the
city and neighborhoods a better place to live?
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Why are you interested in serving on a city Task Force exploring civic
engagement in Roseville?
I believe that every citizen has something to offer their community and
should be an active citizen in giving back in some capacity. I am a new home-
owner in the Roseville area and would like to use my skills in administration,
problem-solving and strategic planning to help make my community a better
place. I am also looking forward to gaining a broader idea of the functions and
roles of the various committees and elected officials in Roseville.
Describe your current and past experience in civic engagement issues and
efforts, including but not limited to your community involvement in Roseville.
My family moved to Roseville in June 2010, so we haven't had a vast array
of involvement in such a short period of time. We were, however, able to
participate in the Rosetown Playhouse production of Oliver! as performers. This
was an excellent opportunity to get to know a wide range of individuals from the
community. We have also attended several events in Central Park and Acorn
Park hosted by the City government.
The majority of my volunteer service has been at the state level, which is
one of the primary reasons why I want to start on this committee—to give back
and make an impact at a grass-roots level. I have served on two boards of
professional organizations, namely, The Minnesota Registry of Interpreters for the
Deaf and the Minnesota Association of Deaf Citizens. I have also served on the
American Bar Association Student Council at William Mitchell College of Law, was
an officer of Phi Alpha Delta, a law school fraternity, sat on the Advisory
Committee for the Saint Paul College Interpreter Training Program, and was a
member of a MN Legislative task force team in 2006-2007 to develop a funding
Program Planning Committee Report to the May 10. 2011, Roseville Human Rights Commission_ 9 _
Meeting
