Members of the Board:
TMDL Study Update
June 17, 2011
By
Tom Petersen
I contacted Brooke Asleson of the MPCA on June 16, 2011 seeking an update on our
TMDL Study.
Brooke provided the following information:
The funding for the Study has not been secured as of this date. The MPCA has
not received a "budget" from the Legislature and the funding for the Study will
come from the Agency's Clean Water Legacy appropriation which is also pending
Legislative action.
If the Legislature appropriates funding for this project, funds may be delayed if
the State government "shuts- down" for a period of time.
The MPCA has asked EOR to develop a "Work -Plan" for the Study per MPCA
guidelines. The Work -Plan is due by September 1, 2011, assuming no delays
because of State government shut -down. If funds are appropriated for the project,
it is possible that a contract to perform the study could be awarded to EOR in
mid- September, 2011 with a formal Project start sometime in early October, 2011.
I suggest that we work with EOR and the MPCA on the "Work -Plan" to include
an aggressive civic and stakeholder engagement provision with in the work -Plan.
Brooke suggested August would be a good time to discuss this element of the
Work -Plan.
