\;.,.:.:.:

"u-:.,

\
'- ...,...

(5::

The location of this roadway is shown here for ease as being
right in the middle of the 60 foot right-of-way. That's where
we like to build them and that's routinely where we build them.
As we talk about this project, we're proposing to not have the
road stay entirely in the middle of the right-of-way because we
feel we can better fit it into some of the problem locations if
we vary that. Behind the curb, always a foo~ and a half or so,
it's necessary to remove some sod and that gives some room for
slope - two or three inches or what it may need to match the old
yard into the curb and also to get the curb machines back in
there to do the construction. It's not routinel~ necessary to
go out all the way to the home or to the garage or into the
middle of the yard to do these projects, as long as they're
fairly close to the existing elevations.

To walk through the project just a bit - beginning at the
Hamline end, it's proposed to move the roadway about five feet
south. The reason for doing that - that is, south of the middle
of the road, so it will be a little bit off-center. Five feet
south means that we would end up with probably about eight feet
of boulevard still remaining. We're not talking about putting
this right up to the property line. The reason for that is that
there is a series of trees along the north side that are good
mature trees and we would certainly like to save those trees if
we can. We think there are about six trees up there that if we
didn't move the road a little bit would be quite probably
affected to the point where they may die. Many of them would
simply have to be removed, others would probably die in a short
time. First we would like to move the road about five feet south
of where it comes into Hamline.' That would help with the tree
problem. Second, we would also like to then end up with these
NSP facilities being out in the roadway so all that would show
would be a manhole cover, which many of you are familiar with
seeing right now - there are lots of manhole covers already along
the road. Otherwise these facilities will be sticking up right
in the curb and gutter section where they're located. It's
an almost impossible situation because they have to have access
to their vaults and their manholes and you simply can't put that
with half of the manhole sitting in the gutter, half of it
sitting in the curb, and a little bit more spilled out in the
grass area. There's one height here and there's another height
six inches lower right beside it. It can't be level with both
of them when they're two to three feet wide. By moving a little
south, we also we feel can get these vaults to fit in the street
and have nothing. but a manhole cover show.

As we progress along, by the time we get to Dellwood, we
would be back in the middle of the roadway again. The grades
in this section would change very little. We feel we can match
the driveways quite well. through this area and we don't antici-
pate any particular boulevard problem. We also don't anticipate
any major storm problem in that area. We will be adding a
couple more basins just so the water can get picked up a little
easier and a little faster than running it all the way down to
the corner. As we continue to move easterly between Dellwood

4
