<br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> <br />Resolution No. 85-16 <br /> <br />REQUESTING CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT TO <br />CONTINUE THEIR EFFORTS TO' HALT THE PERSE- <br />CUTION OF THE BAHA'I MINORITY IN IRAN <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Baha'I community In Iran Is experienc- <br />Ing persecution, harassment and disappearance of family mem- <br />bers, job discrimination, seizure of bank funds, destruction <br />of personal property and torture; and <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, current reports show that over one hundred <br />seventy Baha'Is and Baha'I religious leaders heve been exe- <br />cuted by the government of Iran; end <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the continued harassment and murder of <br />Baha'Is demonstrates thet the government of Iran has leunched <br />a conscious effort to destroy the Baha'I community; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the persecution of the Baha'Is In Iran <br />directly affects Immediate femlly members of three Arden HI lis <br />families; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, both the United States government and the <br />United Nations Human Rights Commission have protested the <br />persistent violations of human rights directed against the <br />Baha'I community by the IranIan authorities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, despite the above-mentioned resolutions, <br />the government of Iran has outlawed the administrative Insti- <br />tutions of the Beha'l Faith In Iran end continues to sevently <br />persecute Its adherents; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City <br />Councl I of Arden HI lis, Mlnnesote that It condemns the perse- <br />cution of the Baha'Is end urges the Congress and the President <br />of the United States to continue their efforts to halt the <br />persecution of the Baha'I community In Iran. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk Admlnlstretor <br />of the City of Arden HI lis, Minnesota Is directed to transmit <br />certified copies of this resolution to the President of the <br />United States, the President and Secretery of the United Stetes <br />Senate, the Speeker end the Chief Clerk of the United States <br />House of Representatives end to Mlnnesote's Senetors and <br />Representetlves In Congress. <br /> <br />Pessed by the Arden Hills City Councl I this 25th day <br />of Merch, 1985. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />K~~ <br /> <br />Robert L.
