COUNTY OF ANOKA <br />CITY OF CENTERVILLE <br />WHEREAS, Mary Ann showed her political activism by devoting numerous hours of her personal time to <br />being trained to serve in the capacity of election judge and serving on election day(s) even though she balanced <br />her personal life of a husband, eight children, grandchildren and a gamut of other organizations that she devoted <br />her time to; and <br />WHEREAS, she served her community for 36 years; and <br />WHEREAS, she took pride in being prompt, working until the polls were closed and all ballots were counted, <br />well educated in the electoral processes and ensuring regulated methodologies were utilized in providing a fair <br />and legal voting process for candidates and residents alike; and <br />WHEREAS, Mary Ann found the most pleasure in serving in the capacity of Ballot Judge handing residents <br />their ballot in exchange for a receipt, providing them with a secrecy cover and explaining voting procedures <br />associated with marking their ballots. She also found pleasure in the potlucks held by judges for their lunches <br />and dinners, tasting other's homemade treats and sharing recipes; and <br />WHEREAS, she also found pleasure in the interaction with residents and other election judges telling stories <br />and providing memories of her years of serving and changes that had been made throughout the years; and <br />WHEREAS, Mary Ann desired to be an election judge for 2016, completed all required applications, was <br />appointed by the City of Centerville in July and was informed that she had cancer. She remained optimistic that <br />following surgery she would make a full recovery and have the ability to serve for the Primary Election. To her <br />surprise, she did not mend as anticipated and she remained hopeful that she would be able to serve for the <br />General Election; and <br />WHEREAS, Mary Ann passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 9, 2016; and <br />WHEREAS, to acknowledge Mary Ann's years of dedicated service. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Centerville will recognize Mrs. Mary Ann Thill <br />each second Tuesday of August (Primary Election Day) as Mrs. Mary Ann Thill Day and be reminded of her <br />selfless volunteerism and political activism. <br />Rest in peace Mary Ann and know that elections are being well overseen in your absence. <br />1 6V41X410 I R; r � �- +'- 1 <br />,telStm <br />,:,... <br />City Clert, Teresa Bender <br />
