Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />March 21, 2012 <br />Commissioners Present: Kristin Doneen, Chair Gary Grefenberg, Wayne Groff, Thelma <br />McKenzie, Kaying Thao, Vice Chair David Singleton <br />Commissioners Excused: Jill Brisbois, <br />Youth Commissioners Absent: Kayo Kadir, Marie Siliciano <br />Youth Commissioners Present: Joan Dao <br />Staff: Bill Malinen, Carolyn Curti <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:30. <br />Rather than calling the roll, Chair Gary Grefenberg asked commissioners and staff to introduce <br />themselves. <br />Approve Agenda <br />Agenda was approved as presented. <br />Public Comment <br />No one appeared for the public comment. <br />Essay Contest Reading <br />Chair Grefenberg invited essay contest honorable mention winner Sophia Rossini to read from her <br />essay, explaining that at the Council meeting on February 27, the Commission had inadvertently <br />omitted reading an excerpt her essay. Ms. Rossini read an excerpt from her essay on gender equity. <br />Chair Grefenberg thanked her and her parents for her participation in the essay contest which the <br />Roseville Human Rights Commission had first organized and which was now a state -wide program. <br />Other Commissioners joined in congratulating Ms. Rossini. <br />Approve Minutes of February 22, 2012 <br />Commissioner David Singleton moved and Commissioner Kristin Doneen recommended approval <br />of minutes as amended, including on line 201 inserting the words "during the month of March" after <br />the word "participate: and removing "and resigned from the committee." <br />Report of the Chair <br />Chair Grefenberg reviewed his report which was included in the meeting packet. He indicated his <br />experience over the last six weeks had been that several Commission committees had been <br />discussing the same issue, this fall's constitutional amendment on banning gay marriage. He felt it <br />was now appropriate for the Commission itself to discuss the feasibility of the Commission taking a <br />position on this ballot issue; <br />
