Community members in attendance reserved their comments for <br /> <br />15later in the meeting. <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES – FEBRUARY 3, 2015 MEETING <br />173. <br /> <br /> <br />18February 3, 2015 minutes passed unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br />20Chair D. Holt recognized and conveyed appreciation to Assistant Director Jill Anfang on the thoroughness <br /> <br />21of the minutes. The Commission agreed. <br /> <br />22 <br /> <br /> <br /> DEER POPULATION DISCUSSION <br />234. <br /> <br />24Brokke spoke on the upcoming March 9, 2015 Council meeting where the Commission will share the <br /> <br />25findings from recent studies, Commission discussions and resident input on the issue of deer management in <br /> <br />26Roseville. At this time the Commission will make a recommendation to the Council for their consideration <br /> <br />27and action. <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br />29Commissioners Newby & Stoner worked with Director Brokke to draft the report on Roseville’s deer <br /> <br />30population for the Council. Newby summarized the key points of the report along with the recommendation <br /> <br />31to the Council. Based on Commission findings & Resident input, the recommendation includes; <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />32Continue monitoring and inventorying deer population in Roseville <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />33Develop a Wildlife Management Ordinance with penalties & enforcement strategies <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />34Pursue Wildlife feeding restrictions <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />35Provide options for a controlled hunt following established criteria <br /> <br />36 <br /> <br />37Commissioner D. Holt reiterated the objective is to collaborate with Ramsey County and the surrounding <br /> <br />38communities on a deer management program. Commissioner Doneen inquired further into how a <br /> <br />39coordinated effort might work. <br /> <br />40Brokke explained that Ramsey County will help but the decisions and implementation process is up to <br /> <br />41the individual communities. Brokke spoke of how the collaboration will be based on opening <br /> <br />42communication among interested communities and encouraging shared knowledge among those <br /> <br />43communities participating. <br /> <br />44 <br /> <br />45Brokke and commissioners recognized there is currently a number of deer management and wildlife <br /> <br />46management plans available for reference when creating Roseville’s plan and ordinance. <br /> <br />47 <br /> <br />48Doneen added a reminder that the key objective when managing wildlife is to be sure native plants are not <br /> <br />49impacted in the process. <br /> <br />50 <br /> <br />51 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
