<br />EXTRACT OF MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF ROSEVILLE, RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA <br /> <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting <br />of the City Council of the City of Roseville, Minnesota, was duly <br />held at the City Hall in said City on Monday, the 24th day of <br />February, 1975, at 7:30 o'clock p.m. <br /> <br />The following members were present: Mayor Linebarger, <br />Councilmen Curley, Demos, Hess and Brennan <br /> <br />and the following were absent: None <br /> <br />M6nber Demos introduced and moved the adoption of <br />the following resolution: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 6217 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Roseville has been informed that <br />legislation would be introduced to abolish the Sheriff's Department <br />and all local police departments in Ramsey County, and that a <br />county-wide police department would be established, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners will soon <br />consider this proposed legislation, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Roseville wishes to communicate its position <br />on this proposal to the Ramsey County Legislative Delegation and the <br />Ramsey County Board, <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Roseville City Council <br />that it is opposed to any legislation establishing a county-wide <br />police department for the following reasons: <br /> <br />1. There is no evidence to demonstrate the need for a <br />consolidated police department. <br /> <br />2. There is no evidence to support the contention that a <br />consolidated police department would be more economical <br />and efficient. <br /> <br />3. There is no evidence to substantiate the claims that an <br />improved level of law enforcement would result from a <br />consolidated police department. <br /> <br />4. There is no evidence to counter the concerns that removal <br />of local control will decrease the responsivenss to <br />suburban law enforcement problems. <br />
