Parks, Trails Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes December 21, 2010
Page 3
Ms. Olson mentioned that Council is interested on input about the graffiti, the cost, and
any prize and then it can be brought back for Council approval.
Chair Peck suggested they decide on what tasks need to be done and then bring the
information back at a future meeting. He stated he could talk to some of the local
companies to see if they had any interest in getting involved. Chair Peck also stated they
could contact the art departments at Mounds View, Bethel, and Northwestern to see if
they have any suggestions for going forward, the cost and how they could get students
interested in submitting a design.
Ms. O'Malley felt they should talk to CP Rail before going to a lot of trouble in case they
are not in support of the idea. Council Liaison Grant felt that CP Rail would not say no.
Ms. Olson also indicated she felt that since the pathway under the bridge was a joint
effort between the City and CP Rail, they would not say no. The consensus was to wait
until the Council gave the approval to approach the railroad.
Chair Peck volunteered to call the local companies to see if they would like to sponsor.
Ms Olson indicated she did put together a timeline for the Council which she has
included in the packet.
Council Liaison Grant indicated he felt the PTRC should first approach Mr. Hames on
what he feels the cost will be and then they could bring forth to the Council. Discussion
ensued on whether the City should cover the cost or whether they should obtain
sponsorship.
Council Liaison Grant questioned if there were other cities that have done murals.
Committee Member Straumann indicated the New Brighton Family Service Center has a
mural on one of their upstairs walls.
D. Facility Fee Follow -up Discussion
Ms. Olson indicated that Council did take a look at the Facility Fee information at one of
their work sessions and they are interested in going ahead with the PTRC researching
charging facility fees. Council has asked the PTRC to put this on a work plan for the
beginning of the year.
E. Other Unfinished Business
None.
4. NEW BUSINESS
