,--ARQEN HILLS <br /> CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> Position Title: Public Works Director <br /> Department: Public Works Department - <br /> Accountable to: City Administrator <br /> Positions Supervised: Public Works Department, Engineering, and <br /> Recreation Department <br /> Status: Full-Time, Exempt <br /> May 2010 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates all activities of the Public Works Department <br /> including Engineering, Streets, Water, Sewer, Surface Water Management, Parks and <br /> Recreational Programs. The Director oversees the overall operations of the Public Works <br /> Department and ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, <br /> and ordinances. This position applies engineering principles as they relate to municipal <br /> projects. Represents and maintains communication with all stakeholders. <br /> ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION <br /> Develops long range plans for the Public Works Department. <br /> Ensures that department related feasibility and cost studies are presented to the City <br /> Administrator and City Council, in a timely fashion. <br /> Prepares and administers the annual departmental budget and Five-Year Capital <br /> Improvement Plan. Develops, plans, and recommends to the City Council other projects <br /> and purchases as appropriate or needed. <br /> Directs operations of the water, sewer, and surface water management divisions to ensure <br /> compliance with all applicable State and Federal health regulations, as well as meeting <br /> the present and future water and sewer needs of the City and its customers. <br /> Directs and supervises engineering personnel in the management of all projects in the <br /> City. <br /> Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, rules, policies and ordinances. <br />
