Manages and oversees policies, procedures and practices to ensure departmental safety <br /> and efficiency. <br /> Oversees the development of a City-wide safety program including coordination of <br /> monthly safety meetings. <br /> Oversees issues relating to parks and recreation divisions, including parks uses, <br /> acquisition, development of facilities; and recreation program needs. <br /> Supervises reforestation program and the diseased tree control program. <br /> Responds to concerns, issues, and complaints from the general public, City Administrator, <br /> elected officials and regulatory agencies. <br /> Performs other duties as apparent or assigned. <br /> SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> Manages employees in the Public Works Department and the City's contract engineer. <br /> Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. <br /> Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City's policies and <br /> applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing; planning, assigning, and directing <br /> work; rewarding and disciplining employees; evaluating performance, and addressing <br /> complaints and resolving problems. Responsibilities also include the ability to effectively <br /> recommend recruiting, hiring, transferring, promoting, demoting, suspending and <br /> discharging of employees. <br /> QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS <br /> To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty <br /> satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, <br /> and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals <br /> with disabilities to perform the essential functions. <br /> Minimum Requirements <br /> • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field or equivalent experience in the <br /> management of a Public Works department. <br /> • Minimum of three (3) years of public works related experience. <br /> • Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience and/or an equivalent combination <br /> of education and experience. <br />
