MEMORANDUM <br />Agenda Item 1.A <br />DATE: <br />October 6, 2008 <br />TO: <br />Mayor and City Council, <br />Ron Moorse,City Administrator <br />FROM: <br />Dave Scherbel,Building Official <br />SUBJECT: <br />MasonryFaçadeRepairs Project <br />CC: <br />James Lehnhoff,Community Development Director <br />Background <br />On March 31, 2008, the City Council approved an amount not to exceed $244,790.00 for the <br />exterior repairs on the City Hall building. Of the approved amount, $23,000.00 was for Wiss, <br />Janey, Elstner (WJE), the project engineer. The remaining $221,790 was to A.J.Spanjers (AJS) <br />the masonry contractor. The approved amount included a $41,700 contingency for additional <br />repairs that could be used as needed during the project. <br />In the course of their work, the contractor and engineer haveencounteredadditionalissues <br />related to the current project and additional concernsthat were not anticipated but need to be <br />addressed. Due to the additional unforeseen issues,thetotalcost of the repairs will exceed the <br />approved contingency. <br />The City’s hired engineer has submitted the estimated costs for the additional repairs.The <br />estimates are divided into threeparts (see attachment for more detail): <br />x <br />Items 1 and 4 are additional costs related to the repairs already started and are needed to <br />complete the current repairproject.Cost: $32,482.50 <br />x <br />Items 2 and 3 are unanticipated issues that were discovered during the course of this <br />repair project but are recommended by the City’s hired engineer.Cost: $65,000 <br />x <br />Additional investigation and engineering.Cost: $8,000 <br />\\Ahdocs1\ah\AHdata\Building\City Hall\Masonry Facade repairs\100608- CC Report - Masonry Facade repair.doc <br />1 <br /> <br />
