<br />~ <br />GregHoag,PublicWorksDirector <br />RonMoorse,CityAdministrator <br />LiftStation#7,locatedonthePresbyterianHomespropertyonLakeJohannaBoulevard,and <br />wasoriginallybuiltin1960.Theliftstationatthattimewasconstructedwithtwo10horse <br />power(HP)pumps.Inthespringof2004,thisliftstationwasrebuiltandtwosubmersible5HP <br />pumpswereinstalled.Theuseofsubmersiblepumpsisnowthecommonstandardforlift <br />stations.Inthefallof2004,shortlyaftertheprojectwascomplete,Citymaintenancestaffwas <br />beingalertedquitefrequentlytoalarmsattheliftstation.Thenewpumpswerebecoming <br />cloggedwithragtypedebrisbeingdischargedfromPresbyterianHomes. <br />Inthespringof2005,aseriesofmeetingswereheldwithCitystaff,theCityEngineer,and <br />representativesfromPresbyterianHomestodiscusspotentialsolutionsforthepumpsclogging. <br />TheCity'spositionatthesemeetingswasthatPresbyterianHomesshouldtakecareoftheissue <br />inaseparatestructurewhichtheywouldmaintain.PresbyterianHomesfeltitwasunreasonable <br />tomaketheminstallaseparatesystemandpreferredthatwhateverremedywasaccepteditbe <br />withintheCityliftstation.Thecompromisewastoinstall10HPchopperpumpsinplaceofthe <br />existing5submersiblepumps. <br />Thechopperpumpswereinstalledinthesummerof2005.Foraperiodofabout18months,it <br />appearedthatthechopperpumpswereworkingandwereanacceptablesolution.Negotiations <br />continuedwiththeCityandPresbyterianHomesastowhowasfinanciallyresponsibleforthe <br />newpumpsandcostsrelatedtoon-goingmaintenance.Inlatesummerof2008anagreement <br />wasfinallyreached.PresbyterianHomeswouldberesponsiblefortheinitialcostof$28,069for <br />thechopperpumpsandanymaintenanceandrepaircostsbeyondwhatanormalliftstation <br />incurs.(Seeattachedagreement) <br />Since2006,citystaffandrepresentativesfromPresbyterianHomeshaveheldseveralmeetings <br />tocontinuetodiscussissueswithragsandothermaterialstillcloggingthechopperpumps,as <br />wellastheincreasedtimeandcostsformaintenanceandrepaircomparedtoourotherlift <br /> <br />
