stations.Ourpublicworksstaffiscurrentlyrespondingtotheliftstationtwotothreetimesa <br />monthtodealwithcloggingissues,comparedtoanaverageofonceperyeartoanyofourother <br />thirteenliftstations.Citystaffhascontinuedtolookatandevaluateabettersolutionforthis <br />issue. <br />Currentlyboth10HPchopperpumpsareinneedofsubstantialrepairs.Itisestimatedthatthe <br />costtorepaireachoneofthesepumpscouldcost$12,000each.Theestimatedcosttoreplace <br />thesepumpswithnewchopperpumpsis$18,500each.($24,000-$37,000intotalrepairor <br />replacementattimeofinstallation.) <br />StaffhasspokenwithseveraldifferentvendorsaswellasanengineerwithBoltonandMenk <br />regardingpossiblesolutionstothisongoingissue.Oneofthepotentialsolutionsistopurchase <br />andinstalltwonew10HPnon-chopperpumps.Thecostforthesepumpsisapproximately <br />$9,000each.($18,000forbothpumps)Thiscouldpotentiallyprovidealongtermsolution,but <br />thepumpswouldbecloselymonitoredforproblems.Ifthe10HPpumpsdonotprovidean <br />adequatesolution,theywouldstillberetainedifamoreextensivesolution,suchasinstallinga <br />largein-linegrinderto"pre-treat"thedischargepriortoitreachingtheliftstationwas <br />implemented.IndiscussionswithrepresentativesfromPresbyterianHomes,theyhaveindicated <br />thattheyareplanninganexpansionofthefacilityinthenexttwotothreeyears.Wehaveasked <br />themtoincorporateintotheirplanninghowtheywillpre-treattheirdischargetotheliftstation. <br />Oneoptionforthemtoconsideristheinstallationofaninlinegrindertotreatthesewage <br />dischargebeforeitenterstheliftstation.Thecostofthisisapproximately$27,000andwillhave <br />repair/maintenancecostsofapproximately$6,000-$7,000everysevenyearsorso. <br />Itisrecommendedthat,atthistime,theCitymoveforwardwiththepurchaseandinstallationof <br />thetwo10HPnon-chopperpumpstoprovidealessexpensivealternativetotherehabilitationof <br />thechopperpumps,andtodetermineiftheyprovideanadequatesolution.Staffwillalso <br />continuetoevaluateandworkwithPresbyterianHomesontheneedandtheproperlocationfor <br />sometypeofapretreatmentsystem,suchasanin-linegrinder. <br />RECOMMENDEDCOUNCILACTION <br />StaffisseekingCityCouncilinputanddirectionastohowtoproceedinresolvingthelongterm <br />issueswithliftstation#7. <br /> <br />
